About George Eichhorn
George Eichhorn was born and raised in Iowa, the son of Erwin, a machine operator at the Rock Island Arsenal, and Jean who was an office worker with a local food broker near their home in Davenport.
As one of six children, George learned quickly about the importance of family and hard work. He attended Davenport Central High School and then proceeded to earn a degree with honors from Drake University followed with a law degree from Drake University's Law School.
While earning his degrees George worked summers at Ralston Purina, the Wonder Bread Bakery and doing street construction.
Upon graduation with his law degree, George moved to Des Moines where he joined a local law firm. He then started his own firm, successfully operating the small business law practice with offices in in Des Moines and again later in Stratford.
In 2000, George was election to the Iowa House of Representatives and served for three terms as a Republican Representative earning 100% voting record ratings with Iowa Right to Life and the National Federation of Independent Business.
George served as Chairman of the Iowa Senate and House joint Administrative Rules Review Committee, where he provided oversight over all Secretary of State regulations, including implementation of the Help America Vote Act.
He was also selected Chairman of the House Administration and Regulation Appropriations Subcommittee, the committee responsible for the Secretary of State's budget.
In
addition, he served as a Member of the Appropriations, Ways and Means, State Government, Judiciary, Government Oversight, and Public Safety Committees of the Iowa House.
As a member of the Government Oversight Committee, George took a lead in investigating the CIETC scandal which uncovered the misuse of federal funds sent to Iowa. As a result, he was a primary author of legislation to restore fiscal accountability in Iowa state government.
George served as city attorney in Stratford and as the lead partner in a
Des Moines law practice. He has also been the corporate attorney for a large farm implement and construction equipment dealer, headquartered in Grand Junction, that employs citizens throughout Iowa.
He has been a leader in the practice of law with memberships on the Information Security Committee and E Privacy Committees of the American Bar Association, the Law Department Management Committee of the Association of Corporate Counsel, and as Chairman from 2007-2008 of the Corporate Council Section of the Iowa State Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the U.S. District Courts in both the Northern and Southern District of Iowa. George
co-authored the chapter on the Iowa Constitution for the Iowa Legal Research Guide.
George, who's last name is pronounced I - CORN, is married to Shelly, the daughter of Raymond and Dixie Lee Sheets of Perry, Iowa. They were married over twenty years ago in Des Moines and currently reside just outside Stratford in Hamilton County.
